Wellington police investigate child luring case

Wellington police are seeking the driver of a white construction-style van who may have tried to lure a young boy into the vehicle earlier this afternoon.

According to Wellington police Chief Steve Rollins, the incident occurred about 1:30 p.m. on Barker Street when a white van pulled over to the curb and asked an 11-year-old boy if a dog running in the area was his.

“The boy said no, and then the man asked ‘Do you want to get in my van and see if it’s your dog?’” said Rollins.

At this point, the boy turned and ran into his home, which was close by.

“The vehicle took off at that point,” said Rollins, whose department was notified of the incident moments later by a phone call from the boys’ mother. The boy was not touched or harmed.

Police are seeking a white van with no lettering or logos on the sides, and single aluminum ladder on top. The man driving the van is said to be a white male with brown beard.
