The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Sumney (nee Muller), 76, of Elyria, died Monday, July 7, 2008 at Westlake Healthcare Center following a long illness. She was born November 10, 1931 in Bellevue, Pennsylvania. She had resided in Elyria the past 29 years, moving from North Ridgeville.
She graduated from East Washington High School in Washington, Pennsylvania and Grace Martin Secretarial School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Sumney was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Elyria, where she had taught Sunday school. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts and PTA.
Mrs. Sumney worked in the Treasurer’s Office of North Ridgeville City Schools for over 26 years, retiring in 1996.
Surviving are daughters, Lisa Marchman of Clyde, Deborah Sherman of North Olmsted, Kathleen Huy of Vermilion, Barbara Cacy of Phoenix, Arizona and Sarah Rzaca of Elyria; sons, Michael Sumney of Apex, North Carolina and John Sumney of Cincinnati; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother, William Muller of Fletcher, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothea (nee Mitchell) Sumney; brother, Joseph Muller; and sister, Kathryn Sholes.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd, North Ridgeville, where a funeral service will be 11 A.M. Thursday, July 10, 2008. The Rev. Dr. Elaine McCoy, Interim Rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, will officiate. Interment will be 2 P.M. Friday, July 11, 2008, at Butternut Ridge Cemetery, North Olmsted.
