LAGRANGE — The Wellington Lightning, trailing 6-0 early on, put together two big innings Monday night to whip Keystone QMP, 14-8, and advance to an OGSO Class C district final on Wednesday.
It was one of five district semifinals for players 14-and-under. Another  Class C Wellington team, the Lady Dukes, defeated Sheffield Lake on Sunday night to become the first of six semifinalists in the age group.
The three district championships will be decided in 6 p.m. games on Wednesday, with the winners advancing to the OGSO state tournament in Wellington starting July 19.    Wellington Lightning cut into Keystone’s early lead with a five-run fourth inning, then put up seven more runs in the sixth to win going away. Raven Howard tripled and Alli Rangel struck out eight.
Keystone Ford Builders turned its game with the Lorain Internationals into a track meet with a 21-0 rout shortened by the mercy rule. Anne Marie Kirchner hit two triples and a single, Erin Pond and Caitlyn Minney two singles and a double, Brittany Bowers a single, double and triple, Chelsea Schumann a single and double and Hannah Cox two singles for the builders. Minney and Kirchner combined for a 11-strikeout no-hitter.
New London dumped Columbia 6-0 as Cassidy Wise, Janessa Kepp and Katie Greer combined for a one-hitter. New London’s Marissa Salay blasted three triples and a single and Haley Parrot hit a triple and single.
In other games, the North Ridgeville Lady Rangers defeated the Medina Stingers, 9-4, as Kailey Demarco hurled a 13-strikeout four-hitter, and hit a double. And Spencer blasted the Lorain Enforcers, 13-2, with Kayla Finkel scattering five hits and striking out four.
Four Class B (12-and-under) semifinals are scheduled for 6 p.m. today at LaGrange Community Park.
