Cheese Festival contests
If you know your way around a kitchen, you might want to consider entering the macaroni and cheese bakeoff and the cheesecake bakeoff at the Wellington Cheese Festival later this month.
The macaroni and cheese contest is new this year, according to Patti Young of Wellington Implement, one of the organizers.
Parade entries also are being accepted for the festival July 18 through 20.
For information and entry forms, go to www.mainstreetwellington.com/festival.
The festival celebrates Wellington’s past when it was called the Cheese Capital of America when some 40 factories turned milk into cheese from surrounding dairies. The glory days for cow power in Wellington were between 1860 and 1900.
Flags over Oberlin
Those beautiful flags around town were put up by the Karl Wilson Locke American Legion Post 102 of Oberlin with help from the city, according to former Oberlin Councilman Tony Mealy.
The 25 new flags were added to the 50 flags donated 20 years ago in celebration of the bicentennial of the American Constitution.
The city’s Utilities Department installed the flags and also added holders on some poles, Mealy said.
Brush collection
Brush cut in lengths no long than 6 feet can be set out in Oberlin up to July 20. Brush should be free of foreign material such as rope, and limbs must be no larger than six inches in diameter. If you have questions, call the Public Works Department at 775-7218.

Do you have the Wii skills to beat the competition?
Put on your game face for the first-ever Oberlin Public Library Super Mario Smash Brothers tournament 2 to 6 p.m. July 18 in the community room. There will be prizes for the top players.
