Reports: 11 injured by fireworks in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — State officials say reports show Fourth of July fireworks injured 11 people this year in Ohio, including a man in Brown County who lost parts of both hands.

Spokesman Shane Cartmill with the State Fire Marshal’s office says while there were several injuries he describes as “scary and unfortunate,” the holiday time was typical for incidents involving fireworks.

His office also has received reports of four fires, including Saturday’s major one in Toledo that destroyed nine buildings at an apartment complex and left scores of people homeless. Investigators say it started when fireworks landed on one of the buildings.

Also, the State Fire Marshal’s office says it was involved in five major seizures of illegal pyrotechnics leading up to Independence Day.
