Toledo police: father tried to kill self, daughter

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Police in Toledo say an estranged husband tried to kill himself and the couple’s 3-year-old daughter by sending tailpipe exhaust gas into the passenger compartment of his sport utility vehicle. A man saw the hose contraption and called police.

Forty-six-year-old Thomas Bragg of Toledo was jailed without bond after he was charged Wednesday with attempted murder and felonious assault.

Police say Bragg, whose wife is seeking a divorce, put his daughter into his SUV about 4 a.m. Wednesday and said they were going camping. A man checking his truck in the parking lot spotted the hose and called police.

Police found the father and girl asleep or unconscious. The girl was treated at a hospital and taken to her mother.
