Red kettles in Cleveland for summer fundraiser

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Salvation Army in Cleveland is rolling out its red kettles out of season to drum up donations.

The kettles normally don’t show up until around the Christmas holiday, but this year the Cleveland Salvation Army says it’s trying raise more money for people hit hard higher costs for gas and food.

Celebrity and volunteer bell ringers are collecting donations in downtown Cleveland Friday.

The kettles will be out all next week too.

The Salvation Army hopes its Christmas in July campaign will bring in $150,000.
