LORAIN — A woman who almost drowned Thursday afternoon off the shore of the Century Park beach gave her rescuers a hard time, Lorain police said.

Virginia L. Mullins, 36, of Lorain, was pulled out of the water and onto the sand when other park-goers couldn’t tell if she was sleeping or dead.

Police said she was drunk and they had to wake her with smelling salts.

Mullins was charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication and for having alcohol at the park.

She was confused and disoriented when she came to, but after she was put in an ambulance, she started screaming and cursing at medical personnel, according to a police report.

Mullins was so angry, police said, that the driver had to stop the ambulance and police had to calm her down before they could get back on the road. She was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
