Ohio storms leave damage, outages

The sound of chain saws cutting through downed trees has replaced the thunder and howling wind from a storm that battered southeast Ohio’s Perry County.

Numerous roads are closed, and Sheriff William Barker has advised motorists to beware of debris. Besides the trees, the high winds early Tuesday also damaged roofs on homes, and woman in Junction City says porches were blown off.

After a stormy night throughout the southern half of Ohio, American Electric Power reported that 25,000 customers still had no power as of 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Duke Energy said 18,000 customers were out in southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky.

For several hours, Cincinnati police handled 911 calls for neighboring Norwood, after its communication system was knocked out.
