Vermilion man arrested twice in same day for shoplifting

VERMILION –  Perhaps the Vermilion man wanted to drown his sorrows after his arrest earlier Monday for shoplifting?

Regardless, Stephen Harris, 42, probably should have thought better of it.

That’s because Vermilion police say that on Monday – in a span of less than four hours – they arrested Harris twice for shoplifting.

The first time was for stealing four packages of steaks worth $88.85 from Giant Eagle.

He was taken to the police station, charged and processed through the system and released.

So imagine the officers’ surprise when – a few hours later – they got a call about a shoplifter at the Tobaccoville Liquor Store and showed up to find out the offender was Harris again, police said.

His attempted booty the second time around? A bottle of whiskey, police said.

As a result of his two arrests, Harris is scheduled to appear Thursday in Vermilion Municipal Court.
