Ohio kids in car, mom drinking; she’s convicted

PAINESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A jury in northeast Ohio has convicted a woman who left her two children in an unlocked, running car for four hours while she drank at a bar and left with a man.

Forty-two-year-old Kimberly Cartulla of Eastlake was found guilty Tuesday of two counts of child endangering and faces up to three years in prison at her sentencing Aug. 21.

Police said Cartulla left her 9- and 6-year-olds in her car while she went to a bar last November. A bar employee closing up found the car running without the heat on and called police.

The children are being cared for by a family member.

Defense attorney Barry Sweet says there was no substantial risk to the children because his client didn’t drink and drive.
