Prison says it foiled Ohio breakout plan
LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say they foiled a plot to help a killer escape from a maximum-security Ohio prison where he is serving a life sentence.
FBI and state agents took 53-year-old Derrick Hancock into custody on a suspected parole violation last week at his home in Cleveland.
No charges have been filed in the alleged plot to spring 33-year-old Christopher Harris from the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville. He was convicted on charges he raped and killed an 84-year-old woman near Fort Loramie north of Dayton.
The warden says the escape plot involved Harris injuring himself enough to require treatment at a hospital where he would leave with help from Hancock, an old prison buddy. Officials say Hancock’s parole officer tipped them off.
