COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Some BP gasoline customers are upset after their recent trip to the pump was made doubly painful by a software glitch.

BP spokesman Scott Dean says at certain older service stations motorists were billed twice last weekend when they paid at the pump using a credit or debit card. He says the oil company has received reports that it happened at locations in the Columbus and Cleveland areas in Ohio and in parts of Indiana.

Dean says BP apologizes and is in the process of issuing refunds. He says the company also will cover any overdraft fees if the error pushed customers beyond their account limits.

Robin Smith of the Columbus suburb of Grove City says she didn’t appreciate being overcharged, because these days your money needs to go as far as it can.

I’d advise anyone who purchased gas from the BP on East Bridge in Elyria to check their credit card or bank statement. I bought gas there on July 25 and after reading this article, I checked my credit card transactions only to discover I had been charged twice. Called BP corp offices (800-333-3991) and was told my account will be refunded within the next 5-7 business days and if the error caused an overdraft fee that I could call back and speak to a rep and BP would cover the fee. I wasn’t over my limit, but if someone else has had this happen to them, call the above phone number.
