LOSING A HOME: Borrowing outreach seminar scheduled at LCCC Aug. 11

ELYRIA — Borrowers who have fallen behind on their home loans will have a chance to work one-on-one with their mortgage-holders at a Borrowers Outreach Day seminar set for Aug. 11 at Lorain County Community College.

Chase, Flagstar Bank, Homecomings Finance and U.S. Bank Home Mortgage will be meeting directly with borrowers who are having difficulty making their mortgage payments, according to Dennis Ginty, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Commerce.

The list of participating companies is expected to grow prior to the event set for 2 to 8 p.m. at the Spitzer Conference Center, 1005 N. Abbe Road.

Local, state and federal housing experts and housing counselors also will be on hand and there will be several brief workshops throughout the day.

This will be the seventh Borrower Outreach Day and more than 2,000 people have attended seminars in other parts of the state.

The Cleveland/Lorain/Elyria/Mentor metropolitan area ranks 26th in the nation in the rate of foreclosures during the second quarter of 2008, according to RealtyTrac.

The event is being sponsored by the Commerce Department in partnership with Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray and the Ohio Housing Finance Agency.

Information on the Borrower Outreach Day is available at www.com.state.oh.us/bod.

It complements the state’s Save the Dream campaign, which is designed to help Ohioans take action to save the dream of homeownership. The campaign includes a Web site at www.savethedream.ohio.gov and a telephone hotline (888) 404-4674.
