Honaker gets 18 to life for killing wife’s lover

ELYRIA – Frank Honaker appeared to choke back tears today as he apologized for shooting and killing his estranged wife’s lover in December.

It didn’t change the sentence, however. Honaker was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison on the murder and felonious assault charges a jury convicted him of on Friday.

The family of Christopher Betts, the man Honaker gunned down outside his wife’s Lorain apartment, wasn’t in a forgiving mood.

“I miss Chris and as the days go by, it doesn’t get easier,” Betts mother, Carol Betts said before the sentence was pronounced.

Honaker, 46, never denied shooting Betts once in the chest, but insisted when he testified during the trial that he hadn’t planned to kill him when he and his two children went to Lori Honaker’s apartment. Instead, Frank Honaker said he became enraged after Betts told him he was having sex with his wife.
