Almost all eights for newborn Friday

The number 8 holds little significance to the Sauer family of Elyria, but maybe the newest addition to the family is trying to change things.

Aiden Michael Sauer, born at EMH Regional Medical Center Friday also known as 08/08/08, came into the world weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces.

Parents Ryan and Deanna Sauer of Elyria thought it would be cool if he popped out at 8:08 a.m. However, little Aiden appeared later at 11:25 a.m.

Still, his grandmother, Dianna Sauer, says it is a little funny that the rest of the numbers matched up. Now, that the family has an obvious favorite number, Sauer said maybe her children will give her eight grandchildren to match.

Aiden is No. 5 — three more to go.

Area attorney looks to be ‘Iron Lawyer’

Elyria attorney Eric Zagrans is going to have to make the closing argument of his life if he wants to win the new title of “Iron Lawyer.”

Zagrans is one of four attorneys who will be competing later this month for the title during an upcoming Ohio State Bar Association training program for attorneys. He and his fellow contestants — including Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann Rowland, who is heading up the Cuyahoga County corruption probe — will be judged by their peers based on 20-minute closing arguments.

Zagrans said he isn’t sure why he was chosen, just that he got a call “out of the blue.”

He isn’t sure what topic he’ll cover in his closing argument, only that it will likely be based on a closing argument he’s given in the past.

He’s also aware that he’d better win or face ribbing from his fellow Lorain County attorneys.

“I have my considerable reputation on the line,” he admitted.

And the odds of winning are even longer than in a jury trial. Instead of a 50-50 shot of winning, he’s got a one-in-four chance.

But Zagrans said he feels he’s up to the task.
