Corpse desecration use to be quite common.
Jane Mansfield’s headless body was abused at least a half dozen times in the morgue. But it was decided that the autopsy report indicating the abuse should be lost, and another was produced.

Rumors that Mansfield was decapitated are untrue, though she did suffer severe head trauma. This urban legend was spawned by the appearance in police photographs of a crashed automobile with its top virtually sheared off, and what resembles a blonde-haired head tangled in the car’s smashed windshield. It is believed that this was either a wig that Mansfield was wearing or was her actual hair and scalp.[35] The death certificate stated that the immediate cause of Mansfield’s death was a “crushed skull with avulsion of cranium and brain.”[36] Following her death, the NHTSA began requiring an underride guard, a strong bar made of steel tubing, to be installed on all tractor-trailers. This bar is also known as a Mansfield bar.[

I remember when Mansfield was killed and all those rumors were flying. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of it was covered up. Back then Hollywood didn’t deal very well with rumors about their actors. What really stunk about that whole deal her kids were in that care with her and for years they have had to read this crap. Of course they are adults now but, I imagine it still hurts them to read the garbage.

OK, I guess I should have said her body was “nearly” headless.
According to Snopes.com (which is a more trusted source than Wikipedia), her death certificate reports that her cranium and brain were removed from her head. Not a section of her brain and surrounding skull, but her entire cranium and entire brain…
Now in my book, that’s a good portion of the head…
“Although Mansfield’s actual mode of death was gruesome, she was not beheaded. According to the police report on the accident, “the upper portion of this white female’s head was severed.” Her death certificate notes a “crushed skull with avulsion (forcible separation or detachment) of cranium and brain.” One thinks of a beheading as the neck’s being sliced through, causing the head to be separated from the body, but that is clearly not what happened here. Scalping is perhaps a closer description of Mansfield’s fate, but even that word does not accurately reflect the cranial trauma she suffered, because scalping victims at least retain an intact skull. The Angel of Death did not afford Mansfield this luxury: Her skull was cracked or sliced open, and a sizeable piece of it was carried away.”
What I said about the sexual abuse could be bull too. I tend to believe it though, since I heard it from a reliable source, who would have been privy to such information if it were true.

I sometimes wonder what’s going through the daughter’s mind, when she’s acting on ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ and her character tells people that her now dead mother was raped and she’s the result.
After being in the car crash and viewing their “nearly” headless mother, I’m sure the children have received enough mental health care to live with the situation.

When I read this I had to go look for a photograph of Kenneth “You Kill Em and I’ll Drill Em” Douglas. I knew what I would see. I was correct.
