Lawyer: Corpse abuse charge for Ohio man too late

CINCINNATI (AP) — The lawyer for a Cincinnati man accused of having sex with a corpse at a morgue says the time limit for filing the charge has expired.

Attorney Norman Aubin told a Hamilton County Common Pleas Court judge Tuesday that he will move to dismiss the gross abuse of a corpse charge against Kenneth Douglas.

Aubin says Douglas’ arrest 26 years after police say the former county morgue attendant had sex with the corpse of 19-year-old murder victim Karen Range is past the six-year limit for filing the charge.

Prosecutors argue the time limitation doesn’t start until a crime has been discovered. Officials say they didn’t trace the body fluids in Range’s body to Douglas until this year.

The case has been rescheduled until Aug. 27.
