Little League softball: Elyria East bounces back from opening loss in World Series, pounds Netherlands, 13-0
What a difference a day makes.
Elyria East Little League rebounded from a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in Monday’s first game of the 2008 Junior Softball World Series with a 13-0 trouncing of Windmill Den Bosch, a team from the Netherlands, on Tuesday in Kirkland, Wash.
Cynthia Woodard hit a grand slam and a three-run homer to lead Elyria in the game that was official after six innings, thanks to the 10-run mercy rule.
Woodard also had two singles and seven RBIs for the team of 13- and 14-year-olds.
Darien Ward had a two-run double for the winners, who evened their pool play record at 1-1. Brittany Bowers had a single and Shelby Lantsberry added a bunt single.
Ward and Alyssa Barker combined for the win, allowing just three hits and combining for six strikeouts.
Elyria finishes pool play today at 8 p.m. against the West region champions, Pusch Ridge of Oro Valley, Ariz. Pusch Ridge is 2-0.
