Little League softball: Elyria’s Junior World Series title hopes dashed with 7-1 loss
A Junior Softball World Series title is gone, but Elyria East still has a chance to equal the fifth-place finish another Elyria East team brought home in 2006.
But it won’t be easy.
Elyria lost 7-1 Wednesday to the West team, Pusch Ridge of Oro Valley, Ariz., falling to 1-2 in pool play. Pusch Ridge improved to 3-0.
Seven errors hurt Elyria, but getting only four hits didn’t exactly help either.
Mel Woodard had two singles and scored Elyria’s only run on a double steal in the seventh inning. Shelby Lantsberry and Alexa Delorm had Elyria’s other hits.
Elyria, which is out of contention for first place, has today off but returns to action Friday. The time and opponent won’t be known until today’s games are complete.
Fifth place is the best Elyria can finish.
