SOUTH AMHERST — Saturday night at Lorain County Speedway was a special night for 16-year-old Amber Gerken as she won her first feature race in the E-Mod division.
Gerken, the daughter of LCS regular Tate Gerken, just got her temporary driver’s license a few months ago.
Amber Gerken started on the pole and led all 30 laps, topping a strong field of 20 E-Mods.
Chuck Philips added to his point lead as he romped to the checkered flag in the Limited Late Model feature. Joe March found his way back into the winners circle in the Street Stock feature while Andy McCall won the Charger feature. The Road Course Warrior feature closed out the evening with Kevin McCall taking the checkered flag.
The 30-lap E-Mod feature started off the evening’s feature race action with Amber Gerken leading from the pole.
Following Gerken were Jim Blagg, Steve Klinect, Steve Jones and Jeff Fade Jr.
The yellow waved on Lap 9 for Mike Bowers, who spun in turn three. The restart was Gerken, Blagg, Klinect, Jones and Fade Jr.
At the halfway point, Gerken had opened up a five-car-length advantage over Blagg. That advantage was erased on Lap 20 when Mike Lawson spun in Turn 2, bringing out the yellow. This restart was Gerken, Blagg, Klinect, Fade Jr. and Kenny Phillips as the top five.
With only seven laps to go, Amber Gerken was on the verge of winning her first feature race of the season. She opened up a three-length lead as Fade Jr. was on the outside battling Blagg for second. Gerken increased her lead and cruised to her first E-Mod feature win of the season.
