BREAKING NEWS — Fatal accident in Lorain
LORAIN – A dirt bike rider was killed almost instantly Thursday evening in South Lorain after crashing into a tow truck, Lorain police officer Dennis Walend said.
Seth Polly, 20, of Lorain, zoomed past a stop sign on a 2003 Yamaha YZ858 – which isn’t street-legal – and struck the side of the wrecker at 4:31 p.m., Walend said.
The crash happened on East 36th Street at the intersection of Seneca Avenue. Walend said the tow truck had stopped at the sign and was turning right when Polly slammed into it.
Lorain County Coroner Paul Matus said Polly suffered a skull fracture and had internal bleeding in the brain and chest. He said Polly died within moments of the impact with the truck.
Polly was not wearing a helmet, but considering the speed he was traveling, the force with which he hit the truck and the injuries to his upper body, a helmet would not have made a difference, Matus said.
Walend said drugs and alcohol aren’t suspected in the crash, but reckless driving was an important factor.
