Marian I. Cox (nee Payne), 85, of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 in Elyria at Wesleyan Village. She was born in Bluemont, Virginia, September 5, 1922.
Marian was raised in Charles Town, West Virginia. She moved to Warren in 1947 where she lived until 1966. With her family, she then moved to North Bloomfield, where she resided until moving to Elyria in 2003.
She was a 1940 graduate of Charles Town High School where she was the Valedictorian of her class. She attended Columbia Business College in Hagerstown, Maryland, for a year. She obtained a position as a student assistant in secretarial science at Anderson College in Anderson, South Carolina. While at Anderson College, she received her two year degree. She later received her four year degree at Bowling Green Business University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In 1947, she took a teaching position at Warren Business College in Warren, Ohio, where she met her husband. She was a member of the North Bloomfield United Methodist Church since 1969.
Marian was devoted to her family and her greatest enjoyment was looking after their needs. She also enjoyed reading, watching TV and managing the family’s finances.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John C. Cox of Elyria; daughter, Mary Bear (Doug) of West Chester; sons, James Cox (Kate) of Ashland and Alan Cox of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Rachael Bear; and brother, Frank E. Payne of Kearneysville, West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank T. and Rosalie (nee Feltner) Payne; brother, Melvin G. Payne; and sisters, Sylvia Brenner and Lillian Kern.
A graveside service will be Saturday August 23, 2008 at 11 A.M. in Brownwood Cemetery in North Bloomfield. Mrs. Cox’s son, the Rev. James Cox, will officiate. A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. in the chapel at the Wesleyan Village, 807 West Ave., Elyria. Pastor Dan Reinke and Rev. Dalton Love will co-officiate.

Liston Funeral Home, North Ridgeville, is serving the family.
