Chronicle named best daily paper in Ohio

The Chronicle grabbed 13 prizes — including Best Daily Newspaper in Ohio — in the 2008 Ohio Society of Professional Journalists awards.

Four of the awards were in the prestigious Best of Show category, which recognizes a body of work as opposed to a single effort.

• Shawn Foucher was named Best Reporter in Ohio in newspapers under 100,000 circulation, the category in which the Chronicle competes. Brad Dicken won a third place in the same category.

Patti Ewald won a second place as Best Columnist in Ohio and the staff won a first place for its Page 1 design.

Shawn Foucher, first place, Best Deadline Reporting for “Inferno consumes two-story warehouse.”

Brad Dicken, second place, Best Deadline Reporting for “State executes Filiaggi.”

Cindy Leise, second place, Best Environmental Coverage for “Uncorrected sewer violations.”

Shawn Foucher, second place, Best Explanatory Journalism for “Catalytic converters.”

Brad Dicken, second place, Best Government Reporting.

Brad Dicken, third place, Best Investigative Reporting for “CHP buys up land.”

Shawn Foucher, second place, Best Use of Public Records, for “Unreleased reports.”
