MONROE, Ohio (AP) — A high school in Ohio won’t allow cheerleaders to wear their outfits to class because the hemlines are too short.

Despite an outcry from students and parents, the Monroe school district north of Cincinnati has no plans to change the policy.

Monroe High School cheerleaders have had a tradition of wearing the outfits to school on Fridays prior to football games. But earlier this year, the district clarified a dress code and said all skirts worn during school hours must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knees.

Cheerleaders were told last week that their slit-sided miniskirts would violate the policy unless the girls wore leggings or long shorts under the skirts.

Tammy Ihle, whose daughter is a cheerleader, says it’s unfair that the girls can wear the outfits for football games and pep rallies but not during classes.

Pep rallies and football games are school activities. If they cannot wear their skirts to school then they shouldn’t be able to wear them for those activities either. Looks like someone spent the night up and thinking ways to just p*ss people off again. What a crock. My Grandaughter is a cheerleader. She works very hard after school nightly to practice. They deserve the honor to wear their outfits of game day , just as the guys get to wear their jerseys.
