Man wins Ohio chili chow-down with 11.5 pounds

MASON, Ohio (AP) — After chowing down more than 11 pounds of chili and noodles in about 10 minutes, a man nicknamed “Humble Bob” has claimed victory in the first Cincinnati chili championship at Kings Island amusement park.

Bob Shoudt ate 11.5 pounds of the chili-and-spaghetti Monday to narrowly beat the world’s top-ranked competitive eater, Joey Chestnut, at the inaugural Skyline Chili Spaghetti eat-off at the park north of Cincinnati. Shoudt won $2,500 — and the admiration of spectators who expected Chestnut to win.

Chestnut said afterward that he was disappointed but ready to ride roller coasters.

Ricky Howard, one of 10 local amateurs who went plate-to-plate with the big eaters, says he knew his chances of winning were small. He finished with 3.5 pounds.
