BROWNS UPDATE — Peek out for the season

BEREA – Browns outside linebacker Antwan Peek, a pass-rushing specialist, will miss the season after tearing a patellar tendon in his right knee Wednesday in practice for the season opener.

Peek was returning after arthroscopic surgery July 31 to remove a loose piece of cartilage from the same knee. He had been making good progress and was expected to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Coach Romeo Crennel described the latest injury as a “freak thing.” He said Peek was running down the field, planted and the knee “blew out.” He was placed on the injured reserve.

Veteran linebacker Shantee Orr, who was waived by the Browns on Saturday, will be re-signed to fill the roster spot.
Rookie Alex Hall, a seventh-round pick, and Orr will share time in place of Peek.
