The Top 10: Amherst still No. 1 in prep poll; Avon up to No. 2

The Chronicle-Telegram Top 10 is voted on weekly by the five full-time sports staffers. Ten points are awarded to first-place teams, nine for second, eight for third and so forth.

BREAKDOWN: The Comets maintain their place atop the poll, and boast the area’s top offense at 40.3 points per game.

BREAKDOWN: The Eagles jump up two spots and have the top offense and defense in the West Shore Conference.

BREAKDOWN: The Shoremen drop a spot despite a 43-22 win over Elyria last week. Avon Lake has surprisingly given up more points than anyone in the SWC.

BREAKDOWN: The Clippers are up two spots, and own the area’s best defense — giving up just 10.1 points per game.

BREAKDOWN: The Panthers are looking to bounce back after a lopsided loss to state power Cardinal Mooney.

BREAKDOWN: The Admirals lost a 13-12 game to Berea, which is headed by former Clearview coach Matt Wilson.
