Avon Lake man killed in collision
AVON — A network administrator for Avon Schools was killed Friday afternoon while riding a Buddy 125 scooter on Stoney Ridge Road.
Hieronymus Robert Bueck, 41, of Avon Lake, was struck about 2:15 p.m. by a Hyundai Sonata in the intersection at Kinzel Road, a short distance from Avon Middle School.
He died a short time later at Avon Emergency Care Center of massive chest and upper abdomen injuries, said Dana Parsons, the county’s chief deputy coroner.
“I don’t believe he had survivable injuries,” he said.
The collision left Bueck with a faint pulse and slow, irregular breathing, as well as scrapes, abrasions and fractures over the rest of his body, Parsons said.
He said that while Bueck was wearing a helmet, he lost consciousness almost immediately on impact.
According to a statement from Avon police Sgt. Brian Tackett, the Hyundai that collided with Bueck’s scooter was driven by 47-year-old Kimberly M. Fantozzi of North Ridgeville.
Tackett said Fantozzi was not injured in the crash. No charges had been filed late Friday, and police on the scene said the incident will likely remain under investigation through next week.
Julie Reimer lives a few doors down from Bueck’s house and said she had known him eight years. Their children often played together and their sons belonged to Boy Scout Troop 338.
Bueck was one of the troop’s leaders and an Eagle Scout, she said.
“He was a fabulous dad,” Reimer said. “He was very witty, helpful, great with computers and always happy to help people out.”
She said just last week, Bueck had helped fix her computer.
“It’s just so hard to believe he’s gone. I just saw him,” she said. “I feel so sorry for his wife and children.”
