The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Thelma H. Cochran (nee Hagen), 87, of Amherst and formerly of Lorain, died Saturday, October 11, 2008 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a brief illness. Thelma was born in Brittan, South Dakota, December 3, 1920. In 1956 she moved from South Dakota to Lorain.
While residing in Lorain she was employed as a supervisor at the Lorain Towel Supply Company until they closed in 1976. She then obtained a position as director of laundry at the former St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain, working there until her retirement in 1989. In 1982 Thelma and her husband Bill moved to Amherst where she resided until her passing.
She was a former member of Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church, Lorain. Presently, Thelma’s church membership was with Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church.
She was musically gifted and played many instruments by ear. Thelma also enjoyed playing bingo, traveling – especially taking trips to Las Vegas, fishing, and most of all spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, William C. "Bill" Cochran; three sons, Bernie (Karen) Kauk of Sonoita, Arizona, Mick (Linda) Cochran of Collins, Rick (Judy) Cochran of Sheffield Township; a daughter, Carrie (Ken) Chonko of Henrietta; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loy and Tillie (nee Thayer) Hagen; infant son, Raymond (1942); and son, Allen (1973).
The family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Ave., Amherst, Sunday, October 12, 2008 from 4 to 8 P.M. The funeral service will be Monday, October 13, 2008 at 10:30 A.M., at the funeral home. Rev. Greg Sellers, Pastor of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
