High school football: The Chronicle-Telegram’s Final Top 10

The Chronicle-Telegram Top 10 is voted on weekly by the five full-time sports staffers. Ten points are awarded to first-place teams, nine for second, eight for third and so forth.

1. Avon Eagles

RECORD: 10-0
POLL POINTS: 50 (5*)
BREAKDOWN: The Eagles finished with the area’s top offense — 34.9 points per game — and captured Division III, Region 10’s No. 1 seed. They are led by senior QB Ryan O’Rourke, who threw 30 TDs and no interceptions.

2. Clearview Clipppers

RECORD: 10-0
POLL POINTS: 44
BREAKDOWN: The Clippers finished with the area’s top defense — giving up just 10.6 points per game — and earned their 14th trip to the playoffs and a home game for the first time since 1988.

3. Avon Lake Shoremen

RECORD: 8-2
POLL POINTS: 41
BREAKDOWN: The Shoremen have won six straight, and shared the Southwestern Conference title with Brecksville after a Week 10 win over Amherst.

4. Amherst Comets

RECORD: 8-2
POLL POINTS: 35
BREAKDOWN: The Comets enter the playoffs with a two-game losing streak, but hope to turn their luck around in a Division I, Region 2 quarterfinal.
NEXT UP: Saturday at Twinsburg

5. Admiral King Admirals

RECORD: 7-3
POLL POINTS: 28
BREAKDOWN: The Admirals had one of their best seasons in decades and capped the year with a win over rival Southview.

6. Elyria Catholic Panthers

RECORD: 6-4
POLL POINTS: 23
BREAKDOWN: The Panthers finished the season on a high note with a shutout victory and the NCL White Division’s top offense.

7. Lutheran West Longhorns

RECORD: 7-3
POLL POINTS: 19
BREAKDOWN: The Longhorns finished with the second-best overall record in the PAC, but losses to the two divisional champs cost them a playoff spot.

8. Vermilion Sailors

RECORD: 6-4
POLL POINTS: 13
BREAKDOWN: The Sailors’ four losses came to teams with a combined 36-4 record.

9. Olmsted Falls Bulldogs

RECORD: 5-5
POLL POINTS: 11
BREAKDOWN: The Bulldogs escaped their first losing season in 18 years with a 48-31 win over North Olmsted.

10. North Ridgeville Rangers

RECORDS: 6-4
POLL POINTS: 6
BREAKDOWN: The Rangers squeaked out a 14-13 win over rival Midview to finish the season on a high note.
