Cleveland museum will return 14 art items to Italy

ROME (AP) — The Cleveland Museum of Art has agreed to return 14 art works to Italy, including 13 ancient pieces that were looted or smuggled out of the country.

The agreement two years in the making was announced Wednesday in Rome by Cleveland museum director Timothy Rub and the Italian arts minister, Sandro Bondi.

Some items to be returned date back 2,600 years to the Etruscan era and include sculptures in the form of a donkey and a pig.

As part of the agreement, Italy will loan a similar number of works of equal aesthetic and historical significance for display in Cleveland.
