BEREA – Browns general manager Phil Savage sent an e-mail response to a fan early Tuesday morning that included an implied profanity, the team acknowledged Thursday.
The fan, who didn’t give his name, told WKNR 850-AM that he had sent Savage an angry e-mail ripping the GM and the coaching staff. Savage responded less than a half-hour after the Browns beat the Bills 29-27 on “Monday Night Football.”
“Go root for Buffalo—f#@* you,” Savage wrote in the e-mail.
The e-mail exchange was originally reported on deadspin.com. Coach Romeo Crennel said he had talked to Savage earlier Thursday morning.
“We all get frustrated at times,” Crennel said. “Phil generally, like the rest of us, tries to be professional and hold it in. But sometimes some things slip out. It’s unfortunate that it slipped out.
“Tough times, tough things happen. I’m sure that if we had it to do over again, we’d do it a little bit differently. I talked to him this morning and said we just got to hang in there and we got to keep fighting and try to get this thing turned.”
Savage, or the organization, was expected to have a statement this afternoon.
"It happened after the game. We have since apologized to each other. The Browns’ fans have overwhelmingly been supportive of me since arriving in 2005 and I appreciate that very much. End of story."
