Lerner: Decisions to be made after season on Crennel, Savage

BEREA – Browns owner Randy Lerner said Tuesday he will wait until the end of the season before deciding on the futures of general manager Phil Savage and coach Romeo Crennel.

Both are considered to be on the hot seat as the Browns are 4-7 and out of the playoff hunt in a year that began with great expectations.

“I understand that those questions are out there and I understand that they’re out there every day,” Lerner said. “I don’t think it’s in the best interest of the organization to answer or discuss those questions currently.”

Lerner said he hasn’t made up his mind on Crennel and Savage, and will use the final five games in his evaluation.

In a rare and wide-ranging interview with local media, Lerner also reaffirmed his commitment to owning the team and making it a winner.

“It’s a privilege beyond belief to be involved with a football team, especially your hometown team, and I’m not prepared to throw in the towel at the age of 46 and suggest I can’t get the job done,” he said.
