The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Ruth Ann Wolfe, 88, of Canton and Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away Friday afternoon, November 21, 2008 in the Canton Regency. She was born February 1, 1920 in Elyria to the late, Fred and Mollie (nee Williams) Sheldon.
Ruth Ann graduated from Elyria High School and attended Kent State University, as a journalism major. She worked for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Elyria Chronicle Telegram, while her husband was overseas serving in WW II. Mrs. Wolfe was a member of Church of the Savior United Methodist Church, active in the Canton community with Girl Scouts at Avondale School, a dedicated worker and member of the Board of Directors of the Players Guild of Canton and early organizer of the Pro Football Hall of Fame fashion show and luncheon.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Merritt C. Wolfe; daughters, Carolyn Hays of Spring, Texas, Joan (Kenneth) Roman of Peachtree City, Georgia; granddaughters, Natalie (Brennan) Johnson of Irving, Texas, Stephanie Roman of Atlanta, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Payton, Ashton, Merritt and Maddox Johnson; and a brother, John (Louise) Sheldon of Amherst.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 2 P.M. at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton, with Rev Ed. Fashbaugh officiating. Calling hours were from 1 unitl the time of service. Interment was in North Lawn Cemetery.
