AVON LAKE – Home is where the heart is, but if you`re lucky, it`s also approximately 3,238 finished square feet, 2½ baths, granite countertops and a two-car garage.
That`s what visitors to the St. Jude Dream Home walked into Saturday and Sunday when the home officially opened for public tours. Located in Avon Lake`s Currant Village subdivision, the home will be raffled off in late June, but for some the contest was already over.
“This will be the boy`s room when we win,” said Celeste Woyats, who is attempting to use hopeful optimism to will herself the deed. “We`re confident we`ll get it. I`m praying to St. Jude.”
With its beautiful architecture and idyllic setting, the home inspired many over the weekend to purchase a $100 raffle ticket, about 85 percent of which will go to St. Jude Children`s Research Hospital.
The home, valued at about $370,000, features three spacious bedrooms, a first floor master suite and finished basement. And for locals, it offers another perk.
“We can still visit our old neighbors,” said Woyats, an Avon Lake resident, who toured the home with her husband, Steve, and children Paul, 12, Faith, 8 and Steven Jr., 4.
St. Jude, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, maintains 78 inpatient beds and treats about 250 people a day. Since it opened in 1962, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and more than 70 countries.
Raffle tickets can be purchased by calling (800) 834-5786 or online at www.stjude
dreamhome.org. The giveaway will take place during a special presentation televised by WOIO-TV 19 on June 28 at 1 p.m.
Other prizes include $1,000 gift certificates for Melting Pot, Giant Eagle, Great Clips, Chili`s restaurant and product and service package from Invisible Fencing, as well as a Cleveland Indians outfield suite for 12, Whirlpool washer and dryer and an Oreck Platinum Vacuum.
