LORAIN - A South Amherst police officer is under investigation by Lorain police for allegedly threatening to shoot a store clerk after the clerk carded her for a bottle of wine.
The clerk, Fioldaliza Acevedo, told police that Officer Alicia Huff, 32, came into Dairy Mart on Grove Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Saturday wearing her police uniform, her badge and her gun.
Huff asked for a bottle of wine and then walked behind the counter to grab it herself, according to a police report. Acevedo told police she asks everyone who tries to purchase alcohol for identification and did the same with Huff.
“Are you kidding me?” Huff reportedly asked Acevedo.
When Acevedo said she wasn’t kidding and asked for Huff’s identification again, Huff began swearing at her and said, “Don’t call me when you need help,” according to the report.
Acevedo told police she responded to Huff’s profane language by saying “your momma” and then went back to helping other customers in line.
As Huff was walking out of the store, she allegedly said, “I should shoot you,” according to the report.
Another employee who was outside when Huff left the store said he heard part of the exchange and as Huff was getting into her car heard her say, “I should go back in the store and shoot her.”
A woman waiting in line told police that Huff became upset when she was asked for her identification and began swearing at Acevedo and said, “See if I come when you call me.”
Lorain police confirmed that Huff had completed her shift with South Amherst police at midnight and obtained a photo of her through a police database. Acevedo identified Huff as the woman who allegedly threatened to shoot her, according to the report.
Acevedo told officers she feared Huff because she was carrying a gun and was very upset with her.
She signed an affidavit to file aggravated menacing charges against the Huff, but Lorain police planned to follow up on the allegations first, the report said.
Police also planned to review security footage of the incident.
Huff could not be reached for comment Saturday and a call to South Amherst police Chief Roger Kimble was not returned.

Smooth Move Copper!! STUPID!!!!!!!

The article said that there is an investigation not that it was all true. Shouldnt they wait to print something until they know the whole story? I guess the truth wouldnt be news worthy. I know this person personaly and these acusations are false, I bet you will never hear the whole story. How unfare of you to judge so quickly.
(Report comment)
Why would the store employee make this up? Seems incriminating that the boozer cop couldn’t be reached for comment. If the allegations are false, I would be calling the newspaper. They wouldn’t have to call me.
(Report comment)
are you the same Mendoza that used to terrorize South Lorain back in the day?
(Report comment)
“Acevedo told officers she feared Huff because she was carrying a gun and was very upset with her.”
Yeah, she was so terrorized instead of telling the cop to have a delightful night, she yelled “YO MOMMA!”
This clerk was just looking for a fight. Either that or she’s way too stupid to be out on the streets unsupervised.
The reason to check I.D.’s when someone is purchasing wine is to assure that they’re of legal age.
The cop was 11 years this side of legal. Now tell me, that her low stress job, dealing with idiots like this clerk every single day, keeps her looking 18…
I hope this lying idiot clerk remembers how terrorized she was of this cop, when the wrong people find out that it’s gonna take the cops a looooong time to respond to a robbery call at that location, and present her with a real threat of physical violence.
(Report comment)
I don’t think the clerk needs to worry about South Amherst Police being called to respond to a hold-up in South Lorain!
In any case, whether the clerk was being a douche for carding her or not, had she simply showed the ID, as required when ASKED when purchasing alchohol, then there wouldn’t have been an issue.
Sounds like bad decisions were made by BOTH parties, but the cop won out when she threw out the, “I should shoot you” card. It pretty much trumps the rest of the argument.
(Report comment)
You’re right EER71, if you take everything at face value, and nobody lied.
But cops can be a funny lot, and tend to side with each other, even if they’re from different departments, rather than citizens who show themselves to be total idiots.
Then again, maybe not. Maybe the Lorain cops hate the South Amherst cops and want to give the clerk an award for standing up for herself, and enforcing the laws regarding alcohol sales…
The cop obviously was of legal age to purchase wine.
So what reason could the clerk, who works in a high crime area, and may have gang affiliations, have for asking for I.D.?
Maybe to get the cop’s address from her license, and pass it on to her fellow gangstas?
And, as stated in the story the threat was alleged. And was probably never uttered.
Face it, if a cop is that upset, after getting off from a days work, and just wants to get some wine and go home, she wouldn’t threaten someone by saying, “I should shoot you.”
She’d probably be inclined to say something more memorable, profane and descriptive. Such as, “I should blow your…” you get the picture.
But I guess legally, you’re correct.
People should be able to test and taunt police all they want.
Then if they’re lucky, they can end up suing whatever city the cops work for, for inflicting a paralyzing injury on the them!
With the right jury it’s like winning the lottery!

man some ppl have an imagination.dan if you think like that then that proubly only means its something you would do.with that being said i work at said dairy mart i have worked for almost 20 yrs for him and i have seen the tape and she was card b/c she used a credit card.and she only went back 2 point out what wine sge wanted the clerk took it to the front.if any of you think you can do better dealing with someof the customers i have had to deal with by all means come give it a try.
(Report comment)
South Amherst used to be part time police. So I am wondering if she’s full time or part time. If she’s part time I wonder where else she works!
(Report comment)
Katie,
There was no mention of a credit card purchase in the article, and the clerk mentioned nothing about such a purchase, when defending her asking for identification when she said, “Acevedo told police she asks everyone who tries to purchase alcohol for identification and did the same with Huff.”
Why would she ask a 70 year old granny for ID, to purchase a bottle of spirits?
Is that store policy, or something she does to get her cookies off?
If it’s store policy, you can bet your paycheck, I’d find some place else to shop.
And if it’s not store policy, I’d find some place else to shop, if they can’t find anyone else to work there, who isn’t so ignorant they can’t remember their customers from day to day or week to week and have to card them every single time they make an alcohol purchase.
And I’m sorry. I really tried to understand the following, but haven’t a clue as to what you’re talking about. Maybe it’s something that would sway my opinion…
“…and she only went back 2 point out what wine sge wanted the clerk took it to the front.”

someone mention she went behind the registar.she went back by the deli to show the wine she wanted..well she did try to use a card i seen the tape.but at the same time we do have to card everyone for everything.if we know you then no we dont card you everytime.excuse me but i know most of my customers but not all so sorry but u come in with a card and be sure to have ur id if not like u said u can find somewhere else to shop.its not going to make me no difference

Let me guess…
You gots one them fancy cash registers tells you how much change gotta gibe back 2 yo cstomer?
(Report comment)
Funny, a few months ago it was ok to fire a clerk because she didn’t follow the rules on dropping the cash like she was supposed to. Many places have rules for carding people if they look like they are under 40. I’m sure if she was fired for not carding the cop there would be people on here that say she should be fired because she wasn’t following the rules.
(Report comment)
Chris H - That is the case in many places where they have a policy to card anyone that looks to be under 40 or 35, but here it would seem that you have a cop hater as she has been to this particular store many times before.
(Report comment)
Yeah Chris, quite a few people did feel it unfair after the clerk was fired some weeks back, for not following rules that were spelled out in an exact manner, with little doubt as to what was expected of her, concerning dropping cash down a hole in the floor. A rule established for the safety of all clerks working that store, if followed as written.
Unfortunately, when you give idiots a little leeway, and ask them to use their common sense in situations that aren’t always black and white, like determining a person’s age within 2 decades, if they’re in a nasty mood, their judgment becomes even worse than normal.
They can then argue, that in their judgment, what little they have, they were following “the rules” as explained to them.
And you can’t really fire them for being total morons, or you’ll get sued.
So, it’s best if we as a society accept the fact that people working in the service are mostly there, so that we as customers can in some way amuse them, to make their miserable days just a little bit brighter.
And what the hey! If in the performance of their duties, they can take down an authority figure, through lies, that’s just freakin’ terrific! Because, we don’t really need cops, but we surely need highly skilled persons to fill those hot dog and Slurpee machines!
This cop was basically guilty at the word of these liars, and immediately suspended.
I hope she turns the tables and sues the dickens out of all who, with malice, lied against her to do harm, clerks and customers, along with the owners of the store, for employing such miserable, lying idiots, proved to be such by the video/audio recording.

Places have rules for carding people to protect the business and the workers. They put whatever age in there as a rough guide line, basically if they aren’t using a walker card them. I had friends in the 7th or 8th grade that had full beards, so might have thought they were of legal age, but in no way did they look over 40. What happens if the clerk sold to some one who looked old but wasn’t legal? There would be fines and they could lose their liquer/beer license. They have the rules just like the drop if they always followed it people underage wouldn’t try to come in and buy alcohol.
Now back when I was younger if I were a clerk and a cop came in to buy alcohol, I’d card them to let them know I follow company rules. But more importantly I’d do just to give them hard time. A kind of payback for all times they gave me and my friends a hard time.
(Report comment)
“But more importantly I’d do just to give them hard time. A kind of payback for all times they gave me and my friends a hard time.”
OK, it’s one thing to jerk a cop around, but would you then lie about the cop committing a crime with YOU being the victim.
Which is exactly what the clerk in question did, when she and the rest of the witnesses officially reported to the police, that this cop, committed aggravated assault.
If it weren’t for the video/audio recording which seems to exonerate this cop who is on suspension, she could be tried and found guilty of a felony, lose her job and be sent to jail.
Wouldn’t that just be funny, cuz some cop gave you a freaking speeding ticket, when you were actually speeding.
Seriously, how often do the cops single you out and mess with you for laughs, to make you see nothing wrong with this scenario?
Soon being a cop is going to be like being a politician…
…nobody in their right mind will want the job.
(Report comment)
I wasn’t talking about her made up story. I was just talking about carding people people in reaction to everyone criticizing her for carding the cop.
“Seriously, how often do the cops single you out and mess with you for laughs, to make you see nothing wrong with this scenario?”
I actually remember a time either back when I was in highschool or shortly after I graduated. I was at a party which eventually got broken up by cops. I, unlike some of the other people at the party, was not drinking. Which thinking back on it was funny that the cops let the people drinking drive away from the party. Anyway the cop kept asking me questions, since I was sober and didn’t do anything wrong I was answering them. Eventually he said I need to leave before I get arrested. I asked him arrested for what I haven’t done anything wrong. He said it doesn’t matter that he could make something up.
So while I don’t condone making up stories, I have no problem asking them for ID, maybe even two forms and questioning them why the picture doesn’t look like them and ask them to repeat the information on their drivers license to make sure it’s their’s, just like they had me do before.
(Report comment)
Chris H: I would imagine that, upon asking for the second form of ID, the officer would understand your little game, retrieve his ID and give you a smile. This scenario should never play itself out however because, although their may not be any official policy regarding purchasing alcohol off duty, in uniform, on some departments, I would imagine it should be considered a “bad call”, or at least, in poor taste.
Most people know that one needs to be 21 years old to recieve a certification for Ohio Peace Officer.
(Report comment)
You may have a point. But if this happened in Elyria you need that second form of identification. That person in a cop uniform maybe an underage stripper.
(Report comment)
The chick is 12 years over 21, comes in full unmiform with a gun and you ask for ID? Chris, gimme a break. Dan, you got this one right. Some of the anti-cop types on this forum are using pinhead arguments for carding her in the first place. Rules? Yeah right! 8th graders with beards? I,d better card this off duty cop. Bullcrap!
(Report comment)
I’m not anti-cop, rules are rules, just like laws are laws. If the business says card everyone you card everyone. If a cop or anyone else in uniform comes to your house for whatever reason you have a right to ask for identification, why is it wrong to do it at a business. Just because they are in a uniform doesn’t make them better than anyone else, they are not above the laws and they shouldn’t be above being carded. But on the other hand I’m sure you’d have no problem if someone in uniform came to your house and wanted to come in and look around. Probably won’t ask for ID or what they were looking for, because hey they look like a cop they must have a reason for coming in my home.

“He said it doesn’t matter that he could make something up.”
How horrible for you! The mental scars will last a lifetime, I’m quite sure. Millions of dollars spent in the couch of a $500 an hour shrinkologists wouldn’t even begin to start the healing process, from your confrontation at the hands of a miserable cop, trying to get your loud mouth out of his face and headed home, AT AN UNDERAGED DRINKING PARTY?!
Tell me, how many poor, poor victims did these vicious pigs round up and beat silly, before taking them to jail for even more beatings?
(Report comment)
“If the business says card everyone you card everyone.”
I’d certainly like a list of places that sell wine, with a policy of “card ‘em all, let God sort it out”
Besides, the issue isn’t about some pig-o-phobic idiot carding a cop, it’s about conspiring to bring up false felony charges against the cop.
The carding, and the cop’s response to the carding mean nothing, since the cop was bum rapped.
But I guess this is kind of a difficult concept to wrap one’s head around, if you’re bright enough to sympathize with an idiot clerk, just trying to brighten up her otherwise miserable life, by bringing joy into the lives of others.
