South Amherst cop investigated for alleged threat

LORAIN – A South Amherst police officer is under investigation by Lorain police for allegedly threatening to shoot a store clerk after the clerk carded her for a bottle of wine.

The clerk, Fioldaliza Acevedo, told police that Officer Alicia Huff, 32, came into Dairy Mart on Grove Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Saturday wearing her police uniform, her badge and her gun.

Huff asked for a bottle of wine and then walked behind the counter to grab it herself, according to a police report. Acevedo told police she asks everyone who tries to purchase alcohol for identification and did the same with Huff.

“Are you kidding me?” Huff reportedly asked Acevedo.

When Acevedo said she wasn’t kidding and asked for Huff’s identification again, Huff began swearing at her and said, “Don’t call me when you need help,” according to the report.

Acevedo told police she responded to Huff’s profane language by saying “your momma” and then went back to helping other customers in line.

As Huff was walking out of the store, she allegedly said, “I should shoot you,” according to the report.

Another employee who was outside when Huff left the store said he heard part of the exchange and as Huff was getting into her car heard her say, “I should go back in the store and shoot her.”

A woman waiting in line told police that Huff became upset when she was asked for her identification and began swearing at Acevedo and said, “See if I come when you call me.”

Lorain police confirmed that Huff had completed her shift with South Amherst police at midnight and obtained a photo of her through a police database. Acevedo identified Huff as the woman who allegedly threatened to shoot her, according to the report.

Acevedo told officers she feared Huff because she was carrying a gun and was very upset with her.

She signed an affidavit to file aggravated menacing charges against the Huff, but Lorain police planned to follow up on the allegations first, the report said.

Police also planned to review security footage of the incident.

Huff could not be reached for comment Saturday and a call to South Amherst police Chief Roger Kimble was not returned.
