TrueNorth to present Arts Fest July 4

TrueNorth is partnering once again with the city of Avon Lake to present this year’s Arts Fest on July 4.

Arts Fest is in its second year at Miller Road Park, after running for four years at the Saddle Inn. The event was moved to Miller Road Park in 2008 to accommodate more than 50 exhibitors, food vendors and sponsors and to take advantage of two stage locations, allowing for all-day live musical entertainment on the main stage as well as on the gazebo stage.

Arts Fest is a celebration of the arts and creativity in the community and provides a platform for artists, businesses, politicians and public figures to get out and meet the public in the park setting.

This year’s exhibitors include jewelers, purse makers, custom sandal makers, glass artists, visual artists, specialty foods vendors, Save the Woods and a host of community businesses.

All-day entertainment begins at 2 p.m. on two different stages. The main stage, positioned against Lake Erie, will feature artists such as pop-rock group Detour, Kim & Chris Ceja, who will perform original folk/jazz music, and the Morrison/McCarthy Duo, an acoustic guitar/harmonica duo. The gazebo stage will feature Abracadabra Entertainment, a live DJ/magician catering to the younger tastes.

Blow-up bounce houses will be available for children all day, and families are encouraged to attend.

The headliner, the TrueNorth Chorale & Symphony, is performing the annual Patriotic Concert on the main stage, which drew more than 700 people last year. This year’s performance is choreographed to the city’s fireworks display, which will be moved to Miller Road Park from Weiss Park.

Sponsors, exhibitors, artists and food vendors are still welcomed and encouraged to register. Registration packets can be downloaded from the TrueNorth Web site, www.TNCArts.org, or by calling TrueNorth at (440) 949-5200. The city’s Parks & Recreation Department may also be contacted for questions and for registration packets. Please send all registration packets to TrueNorth.

TrueNorth, with headquarters in Sheffield, is a multidisciplinary arts organization committed to building and strengthening individuals and the community through performing arts, visual arts and humanities.

Celeb hair stylist to visit Fine Bella

Nationally known hair stylist Philip Pelusi will visit Fine Bella in Avon Lake July 25.

Pelusi, who owns salons in New York City and Pennsylvania, is a friend of Fine Bella co-owner Sheri Hancock, who recently styled the hair for models during a fashion Fall Fashion Week in New York City for Jillian Lewis, a finalist on the fourth season of Bravo TV’s show “Project Runway.”

The salon is selling raffle tickets to win a haircut from Pelusi, which normally cost about $800. Tickets can be purchased at the salon for $20 now until July 20 or over the phone with a credit card, (440) 930-8919.

All proceeds from the raffle will go to Smiles for Sophie Forever, an Avon Lake foundation confronting pediatric brain cancer.

Fine Bella is located at 33382 Walker Road in Avon Lake.
