AMHERST - A Lorain man was killed Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle struck a Chevrolet Cavalier on Leavitt Road.
Robert F. Gonzalez, 40, was ejected from the Suzuki motorcycle upon impact, said Amherst police Officer Troy Gonzalez.
He was taken to Amherst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“He died from a skull fracture,” said county coroner Paul Matus.
Matus said Gonzalez was stopped at a stoplight at Cleveland Avenue and turned southbound on Leavitt Road at a high rate of speed. The Cavalier was turning northbound onto Leavitt Road from Walnut Drive when the Suzuki struck the front driver’s side corner of the vehicle about 11:52 a.m.
Police are still investigating the crash.

This was my brother and for the record his name is Robert Steven Gonzalez not Robert F. Gonzalez, he was a guy with many friends. He was a son, brother, husband and father and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Rest in peace Rob, I love you and miss you already!

Sorry about your loss. It seems they always try to flip the fault onto the motorcyclist. But as I know, even if he was going 30 MPH, he couldn’t of stopped when that lady pulled out in front of him. It’s a shame even the journal didn’t mention his name or the family but praised the lady that contributed to his death when she claimed to be a registered nurse and ran up and rolled him over. Again sorry about your loss.

its surprising how you can make a judgement about the cause of the accident from a 10 sentence story that doesnt even really say anything other than the motorcyclist was driving AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. they are still investigating arent they? i work right across the street from where the accident took place and cant tell you how many times motorcyclists have weaved in and out of traffic at crazy speeds and in some cases passing cars by going between two cars. NICE!! not all people with motorcycles drive like that however maybe it wasnt 100% her fault when he appears to have forgotten that speed limits are not just for cars. if the girl would have been killed in the accident would you be talking this way? of course not. how about not passing judgement until its known what happened. obviously it was not completely the girl’s fault or there would be no investigation.

I am so sorry for this families loss. I happen to be an employee at Amherst Hospital and also happened to be working the day that this happened. It was heart wrenching. The family was here at the hospital, and they seemed to be wonderful people. They seemed like a family full of warmth and compassion, very close to one another and very loving. It really doesnt matter at this point who was at fault, who was right or wrong, what matters the most right now, is that there is wife who lost her husband, 3 gorgeous children who lost there father, a mother that lost her son, brothers and sisters who lost a sibling. I am not related to this family, and the impact that all of this had on me, was incredible so I can only begin to imagine how this family feels, and what they must be going through. I experienced the looks on the famiy members faces, especially the gorgeous little boys when they were told there father was gone. I really think before others start passing judgement, they should step back and look at how they would feel if they were this family that is grieving right now. If it were there family member would they want to see articles where others are so quick to pass judgement without knowing the facts. I know I wouldnt. To the all the family members that were at the hospital, and even those who were not, my prayers are with, and I am very sorry about your loss.

Employee at Amherst Hospital, you are so very right. No one should pass judgement, I was not at the hospital that day in person, but MY HEART WAS! Lives will never be the same from that day forward. My heart goes out to the kids growing up without their daddy and Tami without her husband, it’s heart breaking. He was “ALL ABOUT HIS KIDS”
For the young girl driving the car, I can’t begin to understand what you have been going through, just know. No-One should blame you, I know Rob wouldn’t blame you! We all make decisions that change our lives forever, rather we make them today or TEN years ago, We all wonder what would “have been”, but we just have to move forward from here. May god be with you and guide you through everyday just like he will guide Rob’s family.
Keep your heads up. (The bright star in the sky will always be their)
