The Lorain Fire Department battled a “suspicious” fire in a vacant multi-family home overnight.

The fire, about 12:30 a.m. at 1136 W. 17th St., was confined to the first floor of the three-story home.

“There was a lot of smoke — that’s how we found it,” said Lorain fire Lt. Bill Horvath.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Horvath, who said it “looks suspicious.”

The house next door to ours has been on the market for a little longer than three years. Numerous people have come to look, but no ones buying. Personally, if it was my property I’d seriously consider torching it and collecting the insurance money. I wonder how often this is happening now?
