County assured sweep in Class A OGSO softball

WELLINGTON — Lorain County teams will sweep the Class A brackets in the OGSO Lorain-Medina district tournament tonight at Community Park.

A sweep was assured Tuesday when Keystone Armor Fire routed the Amherst Vipers, 13-3, to round out the field of four finalists. The quartet will compete at 6 p.m. for two spots in the OGSO state tournament starting July 18 in Lordstown. Class A is for players 10 and under.

Lorain County teams won four of five first-round games in Class C (14 and under) Tuesday night. Two Medina County clubs were matched in the fifth game.

Class C action produced a nine-inning thriller that saw North Ridgeville nip Lorain, 6-4. The Lorain girls tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning after trailing 4-2. They were down 4-0 at one point.

Semifinal games in Class C are scheduled for 8:30 tonight. The age group sends two district winners to state.

Also, at least one Lorain County team is assured of a trip to state in Class B (12 and under). Three of the four finalists also represent the county in title games scheduled for 6 tonight. The fourth team is from Medina.

Class C

Emma Rainey hurled a five-strikeout no-hitter in South Amherst’s 15-3 rout of Valley City East. Nicole Rainey hit three singles and Brittany Reising, Nicole Strauss, Amanda Spears and Mary Sanders all had two singles.

April Boehnen drilled a double and triple, Casey Thomes a single and triple and Rianna Scott, Nicole Griffin and Kristen McKenna all had two singles in Grafton’s 9-3 victory over Sheffield. Grafton’s Taylor Tablet, who struck out six and pitched a five-hitter, also belted a double.

The Wellington Lightning waxed Oberlin 12-1 behind Allison Rangel’s three-hitter and Raven Howard’s bases-loaded triple. Sarah Moore hit three singles for the Lightning, and Erin Reisinger and Howard each hit a single and triple.

In the other Class C game, Buckeye mercy-ruled the Medina Fusion, 13-0, as Marcee Starman hurled a two-hitter. Madison Jacabuo and Alex Wisnieski doubled.

Class A

Keystone Armor Fire drilled the Amherst Vipers, 13-3, as Sami Lyons pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine. She also tripled. Teammate Ronni Benko went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double.
