Lorain women jailed on drug charges

ELYRIA — Two Lorain women are jailed on charges accusing them of carting five kilograms of cocaine worth $750,000 in their vehicle as they traveled along the Ohio Turnpike.

Jessica Rojas, 34, of Glen Oaks Boulevard, was driving a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica eastbound on the Ohio Turnpike near milepost 57 at 10:46 p.m. Monday when she was stopped by troopers for a marked lanes violation. Amber Findley, 25, of E. 33rd Street, was a passenger.

Troopers said in a press release that a drug-sniffing dog sensed narcotics in Rojas’ vehicle. The pair also had a large amount of money in the car, although the dollar amount wasn’t disclosed.

The cocaine would have had a street value of $750,000 after being cut and packaged, Ohio Patrol Sgt. Karla Taulbee said.

Rojas and Findley were both being held at the Lucas County Jail on charges of aggravated trafficking, drug abuse and possession of criminal tools. The trafficking charge is a first-degree felony, officials said, adding it carries a penalty of up to 21 years in prison and a $22,500 fine.

Both women are scheduled for arraignment in Maumee Municipal Court at 10 a.m. Friday.
