94-year-old Lorain woman killed in crash
LORAIN — A 94-year-old Lorain woman was killed Tuesday when the minivan she was a passenger in was struck by another vehicle on Kolbe Road.
Louise Battistelli was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where she died.
Battistelli was riding in a minivan driven by Elizabeth Pataky, 73, of Lorain, as it headed north on Kolbe Road at 3:14 p.m. Tuesday. Constance Machulsky, 66, of Lorain was also a passenger in the 2001 Ford Windstar, said Lorain police Sgt. Lawrence Meek.
Jacqueline McGee, 63, of Vermilion, was driving south on Kolbe Road and was making a left-hand turn onto Jaeger “and failed to see (Pataky),” Meek said.
“Both hit on the passenger sides,” he said. “McGee was probably far enough into the turn and Pataky may have been trying to avoid the crash, so they hit on the passenger side.”
Battistelli’s family could not be reached for comment, and the crash remains under investigation.
“In a case like this, it’s been forwarded to the city prosecutor, and they’ll make a determination (on charges),” Meek said.
A wake for Battistelli is tonight in Avonmore, Pa.
