County seeking fed septic tank help
ELYRIA — On Thursday, the Lorain County commissioners approved a plan to seek $207,000 in federal stimulus money to replace deteriorated septic tanks for low- and moderate-income individuals. Anyone seeking the septic tanks must be within 200 percent of the poverty level.
The federal money funneled through the Ohio Water Pollution Control Program would provide for 75 percent of the cost of the work, estimated at $10,000 to $20,000 per household, and there would have to be a 25 percent match provided by the property owner or through a county program.
The application is due today, and the county will find out whether it receives the money in two to six weeks. The money must be spent by Nov. 1.

The cost to be an event sponsor is $150 and includes event day signage, media and one team registration. Team registration is $50 and singles can register for $25.
Haven Center, a program of the Neighborhood House Association in Lorain, is the county’s only 24-hour, year round emergency homeless shelter for men, women and children.
