Woman charged with huffing drugs
ELYRIA — A 51-year-old Elyria woman was charged with abusing harmful intoxicants after several teenagers used cell phone cameras to record her “huffing” inhalants in her van outside a drug store Thursday, according to police.
When police arrived, they found Cherie J. Leprevost passed out and twitching in the front seat, according to a police report.
There were three canisters of inhalants, and one was empty, the report stated.
When questioned, Leprevost eventually acknowledged abusing the over-the-counter inhalants, according to the report.
Wayward walker taken into custody
ELYRIA — A 20-year-old Elyria man was charged with several crimes including obstructing official business and carrying a concealed weapon after being chased by an Elyria police officer and an officer with the U.S. Marshals service Wednesday afternoon.
Garrett Agustus Smith also was charged with having a weapon under disability and walking on the roadway at about 2:15 p.m.
The police officer and federal marshal arrested Smith after noticing Smith and another man were walking in the roadway on Third Street and not on the sidewalk, forcing motorists into the opposing lane.
When warned to walk on the sidewalk, the officers noticed Smith avoided eye contact. When the officers followed the two men, Smith ran and reached into this waistband as if seeking a weapon, according to the report.
Smith was found in possession of a gun and is on probation after serving time for felony domestic violence, according to the police report.
The second man was released.
Woman, teen charged in Lorain break-in
LORAIN — A 18-year-old Lorain woman was charged with breaking and entering, possession of criminal tools and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after she allegedly broke into a vacant home and sold a fan and extension cords to a scrap dealer on Thursday.
Damaris Negrita Ortiz, was taken to the city jail and a 14-year-old boy was issued a summons for breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools, according to a police report.
Police had been called to a residence on West 18th Street and found Ortiz’s vehicle with the keys in the ignition and the trunk open with gloves, a box cutter, pliers, wrench, flashlight and crowbar in sight, according to the report.
Lorain man charged with kidnapping
LORAIN — A 19-year-old Lorain man was charged with kidnapping after a 12-year-old girl said he punched her in the arm and threw a lighter at her in Longfellow Park.
Alan Andrew Saunders was placed under arrest for kidnapping after an officer told him he had probable cause to believe he had restrained the girl of her liberty.
The girl told police she thought he wanted to do something sexual to her. She said she was able to get away after a male friend pushed Saunders.
Lorain man charged with stealing purse
LORAIN — A 57-year-old Lorain man was charged Friday with stealing money and a cell phone from the purse of an employee of Lorain Surgery Center on Leavitt Road.
Edward Orville Hodge was at the center while a friend was having surgery, according to a police report.
When police arrived at about 12:30 p.m., Hodge agreed to allow police to check his vehicle for the missing items, according to the report.
As they were walking, Hodge pretended to stumble and dropped the cell phone.
Money and credit cards belonging to the female employee were found in his pocket, and $35 in cash was found in his shoe, according to the report.
