Local college students, kids team up to make blankets for homeless
SHEFFIELD — Nearly a dozen kids in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program got an afternoon of fun thanks to college students in the Leadership Lorain County summer internship program.
Each child was paired with his or her “Big for a Day” this afternoon at the Lorain County Metro Parks’ French Creek Reservation. There, they got to know their “big,” play games, meet Lake Erie Crushers mascot Stomper, and, most importantly, help make a blanket that will be donated to the Neighborhood House Association’s Haven Center homeless shelter.
The afternoon “really went well,” according to Clair Cygan Young, with Leadership Lorain County.

College students in the Leadership Lorain County intern program and children from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lorain County display the blankets they made today at the Lorain County Metro Parks' French Creek Reservation.
“A lot of the kids were kind of shy when they got there, but by the end of the event they were exchanging e-mails and didn’t want to go home,” she said. “I’m just so proud of the interns and how they connected with them.”
