NORTH RIDGEVILLE — A number of North Ridgeville residents in the Meadow Lakes subdivision woke up this morning to find someone had gone through their vehicles, according to police Capt. Allan Dent.

Police responded early in the morning to several calls of cars being broken into and found nu-merous other vehicles that looked as if they had been entered as well.

By Friday afternoon, 11 car owners had reported their vehicles had been entered. All 11 vehicles had been left unlocked.

“The main thing that we’ve been stressing, and people don’t seem to be getting is ‘You need to lock your cars,’ ” Dent said.
Items that were taken included cash, cell phones, GPS units and MP3 players, according to police Lt. Greg Petek.

Just Wednesday a 20-year-old man from the Youngstown area was charged with a felony count of theft, misdemeanor theft and underage consumption for stealing hundreds of dollars worth of items overnight Tuesday from homes and vehicles at Meadow Lakes.

According to Dent, 90 percent to 95 percent of those thefts were from homes and vehicles that were left unlocked.

“People should take items with them, or lock them in the trunk,” Dent said Wednesday. “Make sure nothing of value is visible.”

Maybe the North Ridgeville police can team up with the Metropark rangers as last week my daughters boyfriends car was broken into at the Sandy Ridge Metropark and her purse with cash and all her credit cards were stolen and I guess this has happened several times there but the rangers have no leads.

Here’s a thought - lock your cars and don’t leave anything of value in them.

The City of North Ridgeville will have a levy on the ballot for the police.

I plan to vote against this levy.

The car break-in in Meadow Lakes started in 2005 and have been on on-going problem here and the NR Police have not been able to put a stop to it.

I will not vote for any levy for the police until I can see that the NR Police are effective in controlling crime.

His car was locked and the purse was in the trunk of car but this thug/thugs broke the window ransacked the car and opened the trunk with latch from inside. Now she has learned a lesson the hard way but it’s a shame that you have to worry about things like this.

If the cars were “unlocked” was it really a “break-in”?

That is logical thinking Tuff Tiger. Let’s not give the cops any funding to help them do their job. That will teach them.

Oh and FYI, they arrested one guy that night, some more the next day, and have recovered a lot of the stolen stuff already. My neighbor got the call that his GPS was recovered before he even knew it was gone.

Might want to get your facts in order before you go on your next cop bashing rant.

A couple years ago I had just moved to No. Ridgeville and there was a $1 million Police Levy on the ballot. They said they needed all sorts of staff, equipment, cars etc. I voted yes and it did pass. IDIOT!!! They put all the money in the General Fund and spread it around. It is NOT exclusively for Police. They got 2 cars and one or two staff (part-timers I think). The rest went to fund everything else.
SAY NO TO ANY FUTURE LEVIES UNTIL THIS SCAMMING LOOPHOLE IS GONE!
Tell me how that info is wrong ‘citizen john’. Betcha can’t (factually at least).
