Family Fun Fair
Main Street Oberlin’s Family Fun Fair is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday throughout downtown Oberlin. Events include a car show on West College Street, roaming entertainers, a variety of musical acts, crafts, face painting and games and more.
Tour the grounds of the Oberlin Heritage Center, make your own taffy-covered apple at the Jupies Old-Fashioned Sorghum Taffy Pull tent or try free popcorn samples from Campbell’s Popcorn. A city fire truck and Sparky the fire dog also will be there.
As part of the city’s “shop locally” initiative, no outside vendors are allowed at the Fun Fair, and many of the downtown shops and restaurants will offer sales and specials both Friday and Saturday. Info: www.oberlin.org.

Wine and history

The Black River Historical Society’s A Taste of History is noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at Black River Landing. Seven local wineries will offer tastings, and there will be entertainment, food, antiques and arts and crafts vendors. Cost for the wine tasting is $10 for a souvenir wine glass and five tasting tickets. Info: www.loraincityhistory.org. Also at Black River Landing Saturday is the weekly farmers market (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), a car show (10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 440-277-7378 for info) and a free concert at 6 p.m. (see below).
Dance in the streets
Dance in the streets of downtown Amherst at Dancing on Main Street, an annual food and music festival 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Park Avenue and Church Street will be closed to traffic, with the main stage at the intersection. Entertainment includes All New Things, The Sharpe Edges, Dann Swift & Friends and Morning After Band. Watch a movie outdoors
Watch a flick under the stars Friday nights at Vermilion’s East Exchange Park. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Movies start at sundown. Friday’s movie is an animated “mockumentary” in which film crews go behind the scenes to provide a closeup look at the penguin inventors of surfing. All movies have been reviewed by Kids in Mind and have between a 0-3 rating for sex, language and violence.
Pedal to Tappan Square for a free outdoor “bike-in” movies presented by the Oberlin Bicycle Co-op Saturday nights movies in August. Movies have bike themes and start at 10 p.m. Saturday’s movie is “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure,” (1985) PG, 90 minutes. Pee-Wee Herman loves his bike more than anything. When it gets stolen, he will do anything to find it again.
Antiques and art
Antiques, Collectibles & Artisans In The Park open-air market in downtown Vermilion has jewelry, antiques, crafts, art, nautical exhibits, collectibles, homemade candles and bath products, quilts, antique cars and more on display all day Saturday.
Parish festival
St. Peter Church, 3601 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, holds its annual three-day festival, featuring carnival rides, children’s games, food and a car raffle. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Relay for Life
The Wellington Area Relay for Life starts at 6 p.m. Friday and ends at noon Saturday at the Lorain County Fairgrounds. Highlights include opening ceremonies at 6 with a survivor lap, a cake auction at 7 p.m. Friday, kids games and a bounce house from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Friday, a luminary ceremony at 9 p.m. Friday, theme laps from 11 p.m. Friday till 9 a.m. Saturday and closing ceremonies, which get under way at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Old-fashioned fun
Play old-fashioned lawn games for the whole family 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Peter Miller House Museum, 33740 Lake Road, Avon Lake.

- Lorain: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Park featuring Just Us, favorite folk rock songs from the ’60s to the ’90s, and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Black River Landing, featuring national recording keyboardist and jazz singer Joe McBride and his Dallas-based touring band.
- Oberlin: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Tappan Square featuring Walkin’ Cane and Kristine Jackson playing a blues gumbo repertoire that blends in jazz, folk, soul and rock ‘n’ roll.
- Vermilion: 7 p.m. Sunday at Victory Park featuring the Community Concert Band playing old favorites and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Vermilion River Reservation Bacon Woods Amphitheater featuring the salsa and merengue sounds of Meren Power.
- Wellington: 7 p.m. Sunday in front of Village Hall featuring Road Runner, classic light rock. Rain location is First Congregational Church, 140 S. Main St.
