ELYRIA - Four men staying at three local motels reported they were the victims of theft Friday morning, according to police reports. Three of the victims were from out of state.

Roy MacFarlane, 41, of Hinsdale, N.H., reported the theft of more than a dozen items from the U-Haul attached to his vehicle while it was parted at the Econolodge in the 500 block of Griswold Road.

MacFarlane was burglarized of items totaling more than $13,000, including a box of 100 DVDs, tools, software, a computer and a rare coin collection that included doubloons, police said.

Patrick Puzzuto, 44, of Curwensville, Pa., reported the theft of two pairs of “hot gloves” used for high-voltage work from a company vehicle while it was parked at the same Econolodge MacFarlane was staying at. The gloves are valued at $300 a pair.

Dwane Henderson, 26, of Lorain, had a $150 GPS system stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at Country Inn and Suites in the 600 block of Griswold Road.

Larry Carpenter, 49, of Flint, Mich., reported work tools valued at more than $2,000 stolen from his work van while it was parked at the Super 8 motel in the 900 block of Lorain Blvd.

All four thefts occurred late Thursday night or during the early morning hours Friday.

“At hotels, a lot of vehicles are from out of state,” Elyria Police Sgt. Deena Baker said.

Just about every time I happen to glance at the police reports someone has had their car broken into at Country Inn and Suites.
I wonder when the brain trust over there are going to hire some security.

1st guy pretty dumb to leave all that stuff in his vehicle, especially a rare coin colection.
