Belongings stolen in sting by prostitute
ELYRIA – A 78-year-old Elyria man had his home burglarized Friday while he was giving a prostitute a ride to Lorain County Community College after she’d performed oral sex on him at his home, according to a police report.
Ten collectable guns, ammunition, a German sword, coins and jewelry were among the things stolen from the man’s home in the 400 block of Cleveland Street.
One of the men arrested for the burglary told police the prostitute, age unknown, “set the whole thing up.” The prostitute had not been located Friday, according to a police report.
Melvin J. Blue, 36, of Elyria; Todd E. Michael, 42, of Olmsted Township; and Paul Bansek, 51, of Berlin Heights, were all charged in connection with the burglary.
Michael and Blue both tried to flee police before being arrested. Bansek was caught outside the residence in a red Ford Escort waiting for Blue and Michael, police said.
Records showed Michael has a previous burglary conviction. He was charged with burglary, having weapons under disability and obstructing official business for his role in Friday’s burglary.
Blue was charged with burglary, having weapons under disability, falsification and resisting arrest. Blue has “numerous felony convictions” including robbery, burglary and drug offenses, police said.
Bansek was charged with complicity to commit burglary.
While securing Bansek, police said a woman called Bansek’s cell phone, asked, “Did you get away, where are the other guys?” but hung up when she heard the police radio.
A neighbor returning a borrowed lawnmower called police just after 7 p.m. about the break-in.
The burglary victim told police the prostitute is someone he “does business with” and said he became suspicious when the woman asked him to drive her around the college campus area several times.
She told him her mother works at the college.
