Lorain
Task force move
The Lorain County AIDS Task Force has moved its Lorain office to 221 East 21st St., Suite LL-1. It also has a new phone number, (440) 233-1086.
The nonprofit task force provides services to people living with and at risk for HIV infection.
Fundraiser
A donation will get you in the door of a benefit concert tonight at the Church on the North Coast to raise money to defray the cost of a two-week trip by church members to Uganda in November.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.
The church is sending two teams, one to make a documentary about the country and the second for ministry purposes including creating new churches, said Tristan Rader with the CNC media department.
The New City Band, Broadway Lights, God’s Child and Patrick Davis will perform.
Refreshments will be available, and T-shirts will be available to purchase.

Clam bake
The American Slovak Club’s clam bake by Pogie is 6 p.m. today at the club, 2915 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
Tickets are $20, and additional clams can be purchased for $7 per dozen.
Tickets are available in the club room. There will be musical entertainment following the clam bake 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
Paprikash dinner
The United Slovak Societies is having its annual paprikash dinner 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the American Slovak Club, 2915 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children younger than 12.
Dinners include two stuffed cabbage rolls, salad, bread, dessert and coffee. A cash bar will be available.

Players needed
Students with mental retardation, disabilities or those on IEPs who are interested in improving their basketball skills should plan to attend a practice session 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Oct. 27 at 1121 Tower Blvd., Lorain.

Support group
An infant death support group for parents, family members and friends who are experiencing grief due to miscarriage, still-birth, neonatal, postnatal infant death or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) meets 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.
The next meeting is Monday in the Parish Center of the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain.

Historic society
The Black River Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 in the fellowship hall at First Congregational Church, 4th Street and Washington Avenue, Lorain.
The evening’s program on the Civil War will be given by Tom Temerario.
The meeting is open to the public and newcomers are welcome.
Cancer benefit
Friends of 28-year-old Christopher Ritchey are hosting a benefit to defray the cost of his medical care 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at Rosewood Place, 4493 Oberlin Ave., Lorain.
Tickets are $15 per person and include a spaghetti dinner, silent auction, basket raffle and a 50/50 drawing.
Donations can be made at all First Federal Savings and Loan branches payable to Friends of Christopher Ritchey.
Christopher is currently in a Texas hospital participating in a clinical trial. He’s been fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma since February 2008.

Hospice volunteers needed
New Life Hospice is looking for caring individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of terminally ill patients and their families.
New Life Hospice volunteers provide emotional support, socialization and a connection to the community for patients who are often isolated and home-bound.
Volunteers provide respite to caregivers, run errands, provide transportation and help with special events. There are also opportunities for volunteers to help in the office.

Community Health Partners Wellness and Fitness Center is offering fitness program consultations.
